Materials Needed
Instrument
-If you use a school instrument, please fill out and turn in the School Instrument Use Form and fee as soon as possible.
-If you rent your instrument from Meyer Music or another store, make sure that it is in good working condition before the year begins!
Book
-We use Essential Elements, Book 2 in 7th and 8th Grade. This can be purchased online or at Meyer Music.
Sheet Music
-This is provided by the band program. Your child should have their own copy of each concert song.
Folder
-This is for your sheet music and other important handouts. We always have free folders available in the band room. :)
Pencil
-This is SO IMPORTANT and yet forgotten by many students. Please keep a pencil or several in your instrument case, so you always have one on hand.
Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, and Bassoon Players
-Please have AT LEAST 3 good reeds. This means no chips, cracks, or fuzzy sounds.
-For clarinet and saxophone players, purchasing reeds by the box is much more cost-efficient than purchasing them one by one. See the Resources page for reed brand and strength recommendations.
-It is also better to purchase reeds on your own, as the band teachers may not always be able to have all reeds in stock. Reeds should be purchased from the band teachers only in an emergency.
Brass Players
-Make sure you have valve or slide oil, and check that your tuning slide and 3rd valve slide (for trumpets) are greased and able to move.
Uniform
-Students should have a plain white shirt, collared and long-sleeved.
-Band uniform vest (handed out during class)
-Make sure that you have ALL black dress-type pants, shoes, and long black socks (no ankles visible).
